Okahandja Municipality to renovate roads

The Okahandja Municipality plans to revamp some of the bad roads in the town this year, the municipality’s engineering manager, Patrick Haraseb, says.The local authority will hopefully be able to revamp the main roads at Okahandja by the end of January.“Our plan is to revamp the main roads which are currently a concern to our road users,” Haraseb said.The municipality consulted the Road Fund Administration (RFA) and construction company, Colas Namibia, last year. Measurements were made and a strategy to effectively renovate the roads was devised, according to Haraseb. “We are in constant communication with Colas to provide quotations and getting all necessary procedures in place, then we’ll start the construction,” he added.Haraseb said the municipality attempted to resurface the roads last year for the short term while organising financial capacity to effectively revamp the roads for the long term. “The roads are really bad, we tried last year to at least resurface them, but they get back to the same condition,” he said, explaining that some of the roads had surpassed their lifespan.He however highlighted the lack of finance as the biggest challenge faced by the local authority. Without sufficient funds, the institution’s priority projects such as road maintenance could be affected, Haraseb says. - Nampa
