Ohorongo supplies cement for employees’ houses

OTAVI - Ten employees of the Ohorongo Cement factory backed by their company last week received certificates of the deed of sale for their residential plots from the Otavi Town Council.Ohorongo Cement invested N$9 million in the acquisition of land from the Otavi Town Council to assist employees to secure fully serviced residential plots in Extension 5 where they can build their own houses.Managing director of Ohorongo, Hans-Wilhelm Schütte, said the company will also supply free cement to its employees to reduce the cost of building materials.“Today marks another milestone in the existence of Ohorongo Cement as we create the first of many real and lasting legacies for the welfare of our colleagues who reside in the town of Otavi,” said Schütte.The employees will build their one, two or three-bedroom houses through a private developer on these acquired plots using the financial assistance of a local commercial bank.Ohorongo has secured 30 serviced plots from the town council at Otavi’s Extension 5 for its employees so far, Schütte said.This land acquisition process will continue for three years until a total of 120 residential plots are acquired.One of the beneficiaries, Kevin Hitjii, told Nampa he intends to build a three-bedroom house.“I will soon have a place I can call my own home,” he said.Josefa Shekuwa, another beneficiary, said for him it is a dream come true.“This will be my own property. I don't have words to describe my happiness,” he said.Another employee who received his deed of sale from the town council, Mulunga Elifas, thanked Ohorongo for making it possible for him to acquire a residential plot where he will build a house.Otavi mayor Martha Shipanga on behalf of the town council handed over the deed of sale certificates to the beneficiary employees of Ohorongo.Ohorongo, situated over 20 kilometres north of Otavi, has nearly 300 employees. - Nampa
