Axel TibinyaneNuclear Scientists might test materials to see how they behave together, investigate catalytic behavior, and identify materials that work in nuclear reactors or discover how materials act under pressure or in different environments.Tibinyane specializes in various parts of physics which include medical, health physics where you get the kind of energy that is appropriate for the patient and regulating nuclear and radiation safety.To go into this career you need an undergraduate degree specializing in physics but you can also specialize in other departments like chemistry, mathematics and a little bit of geology. Axel attended the University of the Western Cape in South Africa where he did his undergraduate degree and later he went to study medical physics at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa. He did his master’s program in the United Kingdom where he was specializing in environmental physics, nuclear physics and radiation physics.Tibinyane said he was inspired to become a nuclear scientist as he was always interested in the sciences department and mathematics because those are the areas he felt comfortable with at school.“When I went to university I tried doing other things but I could not find them interesting for me,” he said.The character traits one needs to become a nuclear scientist is being inquisitive because it involves a lot of concepts, physical and application of mathematics in those concepts. You should have the interest to do it and the desire as well. Perseverance is one of the important traits too. .
