Michelline Nawatises The Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) has made changes to its application process due to the 2020 grade 11 and 12 delayed results. While the due date for applications remains unchanged – 16 March - all applicants will be required to apply online. Vocational training and education trainees will also apply online.For grade 11 and 12 candidates, NSFAF will communicate the commencement for their application process as soon as the 2020 grade 12 results for both full and part-time applicants are released.Learners who are eligible to apply are the following:Undergraduate: Learners who completed grade 12 before the year 2020, for both local and SADC/ international.Vocational: Trainees who completed grade 12 or other grades before the year 2020, for both local and SADC/ international.Postgraduate: Students who have visited NSFAF and acknowledged their previous debts.According to NSFAF’s website, the applications already commenced on 6 January for undergraduates, postgraduates and vocational applicants to study at local and SADC/international recognised institutions with accredited programmes.Mature-age applications will only be accepted for local public institutions, namely:The University of Namibia, Namibia University of Science and Technology and Namibian College of Open Learning. All required documents must be uploaded during the application period as no additional documents will be accepted after the deadline.The following funding requirements are to be met when attempting to apply for a loan:* An applicant should be a Namibian citizen; * An applicant should apply to study full/part-time or distance at accredited and recognised institutions of higher learning; * Applicants should have obtained 25 points (in grade 12) in five subjects with an F in English to qualify for funding at local institutions of higher learning, however, applicants intending to study education and law should obtain 25 points (in grade 12) in five subjects with a minimum of E in English; * Applicants who have improved their English through English programmes offered by institutions of higher learning will also be considered, provided that such a programme is not less than three (3) months and they have obtained a pass; * Applicant admitted on mature-age entry should be considered for funding provided that proof of admission on mature age from the public local Institution is provided to NSFAF. Applicants should at least be 23 years old. * Pre- or bridging programmes will only be considered if the programme is a pre-requisite of the formal programmes. In the event where the pre-programme is only implemented for the students who did not meet the requirements of the actual programme, then application for those students will not be considered. * Applicants should provide proof of parental income if unemployed a declaration under oath should be provided. * Local students must have been registered at institution of higher learning to qualify for funding. * Foreign qualifications (including grade 12 certificates) should be submitted with an evaluation from Namibia Qualification Authority attached to the application forms. * Applicants (students) that are employed and studying part-time or distance may be funded depending on the field of study. This funding is limited to high- and medium-priority fields of study as determined annually by NSFAF, provided that their income does not exceed N$300 000 per annum.
