Neymar Fives kicks off in Oshakati

Namibia's first national qualifying tournament of the 2019 Red Bull Neymar Junior's Fives kicked off last Saturday.
In the Northern qualifier at the Oshakati Independence Stadium, 16 teams battled it out for their spot at the national final – set to take place on 27 April at the FIFA for Hope Stadium in Windhoek.
Teams went head to head in the group stages which showcased the raw talent of Namibian football. The intense knock-out stages were filled with fast-paced football, where the final eight teams battled it out for their spot on the road to the national final.
Katengela FC took the title of Northern champions, after a close final against Team J. Perny.
Red Bull Brand Manager, Nadja Geiger, said: “This 5-a-side tournament allows the youth of Namibia to showcase their talent on an international platform and we are proud to see so much soccer skills in our country.
“We are also very excited that the defending national champions Khuse Lions, formerly known as 'The Lions' (who travelled to Brazil in 2018 as Namibian champions in the Red Bull Neymar Jr's Fives) also made it through to the next round this year.'
The top five Oshakati teams of the day secured their positions for the national final where they will have the opportunity to claim their title as the national champions paving their way to the World Final.
The World Final is set to take place in July 2019 in Brazil where teams from every continent will have the opportunity to battle it out for the world championship title, as well as the opportunity to play against Neymar Junior himself.
Red Bull expressed thanks to its partners in this amazing tournament, namely Snickers, Fresh FM, GIZ, FLI, Shoprite and NBC. The next national qualifiers are set to have more incredible football and unforgettable emotions.
The Windhoek qualifier kicks off on Saturday 13 April, followed by the Swakopmund qualifier on Saturday 20 April.
The five Oshakati teams going through to the national final are: 1 Katengela FC, 2 J. Perny, 3 Khuse Lions, 4 Volkanos, and 5 Jikas. They will represent the North at the national final on 27 April in Windhoek, where they will go head to head against the top teams from the Coastal and Central regions.
