Pro vice chancellor of administration, finance and resource mobilisation Ellen Ndeshi Namhila made an announcement of new leadership appointments at the University of Namibia (Unam) during a brief public announcement.
The first appointment announcement was held on 24 May. During this time, Namhila stated that the university had not completed the process of appointing all leaders of the university. As a result, the second round of announcements had to be done.
The announcement of these leaders was done to make the leadership known to the students, staff members and the public. “Stakeholders should expect more of these sessions where we meet and have open conversations about the academia. These large-scale leadership appointments are a consequence of previous leadership as well as university transformation process that began in 2019 to restructure the university in order to efficiently and effectively respond to changes in the higher education sector”, Namhila assured.
This process is said to have caused significant changes within the university which include the number of faculties. Unam has changed from eight faculties to four. These are: The faculty of agriculture, engineering and natural sciences; the faculty of commerce, management and law; the faculty of education and human sciences, and the faculty of health sciences and veterinary medicine.
The executive deans appointed for these faculties are Ndeyapo Nikanor, John Nyambe, Alfons Mosimane and Judith Hall respectively.
