New directors to the board of MultiChoice Namibia
MultiChoice Namibia is pleased to announce that two Directors from the Board of Kalahari Holdings, were nominated to serve on the Board of MultiChoice Namibia, namely: Ms Milka Mungunda and Advocate Bience Gawanas respectively. Furthermore, Mungunda will serve as the new Chairperson of MultiChoice Namibia.
Mungunda was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Social Security Commission at the beginning of this month. Her former positions include General Manager at GIPF, Founding Director and Shareholder of One Africa Television, Director of SME Bank and Acting Registrar at University of Namibia (Unam). She started out her career as a teacher of Science, Maths and Agriculture in Tsumeb and Okakarara respectively.
Gawanas served Namibia in various public portfolios in her capacity as member of the Public Service Commission, member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Namibia, Gender Law lecturer at the University of Namibia, Member and a Chairperson of the Law Reform and Development Commission and the Ombudswoman of Namibia. Gawanas served as the African Union Commissioner for Social Affairs and Special Advisor to the Minister of Health and Social Services on policy and social issues. Currently she has been reassigned as Special Advisor on Poverty Eradication and Social Development to the Minister of Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, and continues to serve on international commissions and taskforces.
MultiChoice Namibia launched as a Joint Venture (JV) with Kalahari Holdings in February 1992, and is the oldest MultiChoice Joint Venture in the Group.
Mr. Roger Gertze, General Manager of MultiChoice Namibia commented: “Kalahari Holdings is a committed partner to MultiChoice, and together we have built the partnership into an operation that keeps delivering quality service and entertainment to Namibians. Furthermore, Gertze expressed his highest esteem and utmost gratitude to the outgoing MultiChoice Namibia Directors: Dr Kalumbi Shangula (outgoing Chairman); Dr Elijah Ngurare and Mr John Nauta (outgoing Alternate Director) for their guidance and support during their tenures as Directors of MultiChoice Namibia.
Mungunda and Gawanas will serve on the MultiChoice Board alongside fellow Directors including: Mr Hennie Visser, Chief Financial Officer, MultiChoice Africa; Ms Patricia van Rooyen, Regional Director of Southern Africa, MultiChoice Africa and Gertze.
