NBL gives more for fight against cancer
World Cancer Day, annually commemorated on 4 February, serves the purpose of raising awareness on cancer as well as to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment. The theme for 2020 is ‘I Am, and I Will’ - to acknowledge that everyone has the capacity to act in the face of cancer.
In honour of World Cancer Day, the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group subsidiary Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) re-affirmed its commitment towards the fight against cancer, with another annual donation to the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) and the Dr AB May Cancer Care Centre. NBL increased its annual total contribution of N$120 000 to N$140 000 in 2020 – split equally between CAN and the Dr AB May Cancer Care Centre (N$70 000 each).
NBL managing director Marco Wenk, in addition to participating in the walk for cancer on 4 February, officially handed over the donation to the CAN chief executive officer (CEO) Rolf Hansen.
“We are extremely excited that we are able to make another contribution to keeping this very important body alive. CAN has proven over the years to be a key player and significant contributor to the fight against this dreaded disease. CAN is a pillar of strength and support for those affected by cancer. As part of the O&L Group, NBL embraces the group purpose of ‘Creating a future, enhancing life’ for all Namibians, through aspiring to be a catalyst for positive change,” Wenk said.
“While CAN plays such a significant and valuable role in the national fight against cancer, and also in the lives of those affected, we are unable to perform our mandate without the necessary support from the Namibian public. Ongoing contributions and support like that of NBL makes significant differences in the operations of CAN as well as in the lives of those affected,” Hansen added.
“Cancer is real in Namibia, in many forms, and it is only through the assistance and support from our fellow Namibians, that we will be able to continue to play our part in creating awareness, and supporting those people directly affected. Thank you NBL once again, for your invaluable support,” Hansen said.
