Namibia Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (NamSTEM) is hosting a holiday school for the learners who are part of their feeding scheme in Narraville, Walvis Bay.
NamSTEM was founded in 2018 as an educational organisation aimed at promoting the subjects of science, technology and mathematics amongst children.
As part of its activities, it has an active feeding scheme that feeds about 170 children in Narraville. The scheme started with only 40 children and branched out.
Anastacia de Klerk, the founder of NamSTEM, explained that she is hosting the holiday school as a way to keep the children busy.
“We have classes every Monday to Wednesday afternoon, and we cater for children from three to 14 years old. Hokey Pokey Kindergarten in Narraville were kind enough to host us.”
She said in addition to various activities, the children also receive something to eat.
“A lot of these children come from different circumstances, and it’s great to see them enjoying themselves with the arts and craft activities.”
Shiraldo (10) and Raven (8) who attend the club said they enjoy learning and drawing. “It’s great to draw and paint. It keeps us busy.”
De Klerk said she would like to take the children on a trip to Dune 7 or Swakopmund for a day. Currently, about 70 learners are part of the holiday club.
“It would be great to get a few sponsors on board and take the children out. A lot don’t get the chance to travel outside of their usual comfort zones. Anyone who might be willing to assist can contact us at 081 485 1782.”
Aside from the feeding scheme, NamSTEM is home to a science club as well.
