Brag Nights, managed by Nadia van Wyk (24), hosted a convoy to create road safety awareness for the past Easter weekend.

This was aimed at car enthusiasts and fans of The Fast and the Furious - to bring extra spark to the movie.

“Our whole aim regarding the convoy that took place on 14 April was to promote road safety in Namibia and within the motor sport community,” Van Wyk said.

They took the opportunity with the release of The Fate of the Furious and worked from there involving not only motor clubs, but also individual car enthusiasts to come together as one “familia” for that night.

Sponsors

The purpose of the event was to make the voices of car enthusiasts heard throughout the community. Sponsors included Vibe Lounge, that donated a cash amount to The Hope Village Namibia, Ster Kinekor Grove Mall, Shaye's Embroidery, Tribal (media partner), Elite numberplates and signage, and Windhoek's traffic department.

The Aim

Van Wyk said: "Our main message to every individual who gets behind the wheel of a car or bike is to take a second and realise your actions on the road can affect many positively or negatively, so think before you act. Since the campaign took place over a long weekend, not everyone got involved, but this project was just the start of something big for Brag Nights.

Like we always say: 'Bigger and better each time.' And: 'Keep learning and growing.'“

Tickets cost N$200 per ticket and as part of a charity investment in the community, one ticket covered two people.

The convoy started at 18:00. Car enthusiasts gathered at Game's parking lot awaiting traffic officers Omar Jossobs and Collins Christiaan to lead them safely to The Grove Mall, where the movie started at the Ster-Kinekor at 20:00.

The theatre was packed for the opening of The Fate of the Furious.

“A lot of viewers expected the same storyline, but things change, people change and with that said, the movie will keep changing, but will always stick to the car community lifestyle.

It was worth the wait,” Van Wyk said.

Brag Nights' Van Wyk and Zeeno Farmer would like to thank each and everyone who helped to make the convoy possible.
