Namibia Country Lodges spreading its wings
NAMIBIA Country Lodge Managing Director Willem de Wet says after experiencing the worst-ever period in the group?s history in June and July this year, the country?s tourism industry appears to have bounced back as the group?s occupancy has improved dramatically.
De Wet told TourNamibia the Namushasha Country Lodge in Eastern Caprivi recorded its highest-ever bed occupancy and turnover last month, while the Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is running at close to 100% occupancy.
According to De Wet there has also been a significant increase in occupancy at the other establishments in the group, while the new bakery at Solitaire Country Lodge is doing exceptionally well.
A new activity, camel rides, will soon be offered by the Solitaire Country Lodge. He said the Namibia Country Lodges hospitality group will be expanding its operations in several of the country?s communal conservancies.
De Wet said concept plans for the development of accommodation in the Khaudum National Park have already been submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and an environmental impact assessment is currently underway.
The facilities in Khaudum will comprise of a reception area and luxury tented camps on wooden platforms and en-suite facilities at Sikereti in the south and Khaudum in the north.
De Wet said care will be taken to ensure that the facilities are eco-friendly and wooden poles, thatch and other environment-friendly material will be used. Both camps will also have nine campsites each. De Wet said Phase
One of the development include the construction of proper ablution facilities at the two camps. The concession for the accommodation facilities in the park was awarded to Namibia Country Lodges earlier this year by the Muduva Nyangana and George Mukoya Conservancies which fall in the Gciriku Conservancy in the Kavango Region.
Namibia Country Lodges also plans to build a small luxury camp at the southern end of the Nyae-Nyae Pan in the Nyae-Nyae Conservancy, and a second camp in the north of the conservancy.
In another development, the hospitality group has completed the construction of 25 rooms at its Tsumkwe Country Lodge.
?Work on the construction of the main building will commence early next year,? De Wet told TourNamibia.
The group is also working on plans to build an eight-bed camp in the core area of the Uukwaluudhi Conservancy in the North- Central Region. Other establishments in the group include the Auob Country Lodge and the Opuwo Country Hotel.
