Mutorwa calls for hard work to avoid consultants

Works and Transport Minister John Mutorwa has called on staff members of the Roads Authority control laboratory to trust in themselves, work hard and gain skills so as to avoid dependence on consultants.Mutorwa made the call during a familiarisation visit to the laboratory on Friday, saying Namibia cannot keep depending on consultants.“Consultants are robbing us of our money by drawing up comprehensive reports to ensure that one day you will have to return to them for assistance and they will charge you again. I believe as a nation we have the potential to achieve anything we want to. We just need to trust ourselves,” he said.Mutorwa encouraged the workers to perform so that there is no outcry about skills transfer from workers from other countries once Namibians are assisted in executing tasks.Some projects, he continued saying, could not be executed because of consultants that are hired and this hinders development in Namibia. He further said all positions in an organisation or at an office or laboratory are important.Trust“An office works like the body of a person. If you even have a small sore on your finger your whole body will not be functioning right. That is why every employee is important and one should never take employees for granted in their position,” he said.He added that once people work together in an organisation or office, many great achievements can come out of trusting each other.Explaining some of the activities of the RA control laboratory, senior engineer Lucas Wakudumo said the laboratory ensures that internationally accepted testing methods and best practices are applied when attending to roads, which in turn means safe and sustainable roads are constructed.
