MultiChoice responds to readers' queries

Dani Booysen
MultiChoice Namibia herewith responds to various SMSes to Republikein received during March 2017:

MultiChoice announced that it will be effecting annual subscription price increases for all DStv packages from 1 April 2017. This decision was made after careful consideration of the market and a review of its business operations.

Our key priority is to put subscribers' needs at the heart of everything we do and in determining a price increase, we took into account many factors including the impact on the subscriber, current inflation, programming costs and efficiencies we can affect within the company.

MultiChoice will absorb most of the additional costs because it understands that our customers are currently facing tough economic conditions. Please be assured that we've worked really hard to keep this year's fees down despite the tough economic climate.

PRICING

Subscription price increases generally occur every year in April, at the start of our financial year.

These are necessitated by increasing input costs. MultiChoice Africa's cost structure has various input costs, which include salaries, technical infrastructure costs, satellite lease costs, facility costs, marketing costs and programming costs. Unfortunately it is necessary to affect price increases due to the ever-rising costs to the business.

Subscription prices in Africa vary in each country according to a number of factors, ranging from the cost of doing business, the available infrastructure and the cost of providing the service. These costs may be influenced by the economies of scale that may or may not be present.

Subscription prices are not related to operations in South Africa or their respective prices. The price differences may also be due to the accommodation of differing tax regimes and operational cost structures.

PENSIONERS

We value our long-standing customers and greatly appreciate their support over the years. Because a DStv decoder can be easily moved from one location to another, we can't always verify if the user of that decoder is in fact a pensioner. So our current policy is that we can only offer pensioner discounts to customers who live in retirement villages, where the body corporate subscribes for the entire village.

SPORT

Aside from world-class football, DStv subscribers also have access to a wide variety of sports including: Rugby: Vodacom Super Rugby; Sevens World Series, Cycling: Tour de France, UCI Track Champs, Cape Epic; Golf: PGA Tour, European Tour and Sunshine Tour; Tennis: All the Majors, ATP Tour, WTA Tour; Athletics: World Indoor Championships, Major marathons; Cricket: ICC World T20, IPL, SA/ England/ India; Motorsport: F1, Superbikes, MotoGP, NASCAR, Indycar along with the best International Boxing tournaments in the world.

IMPROVEMENTS

As part of putting our customers at the heart of the MultiChoice business we have listened to their feedback and are making changes to improve their viewing experience across the M-Net channels. From 1 April 2017, DStv Premium customers can look forward to a fresh new scheduling approach on M-Net which will result in fewer repeats of movies and series.

Recently MultiChoice Namibia introduced two brand new incentive programmes - DStv THANKS and GOtv WOW - to show appreciation for their DStv and GOtv customers by offering new channels and airtime bonuses. Check out www.dstv.com or www.gotvafrica.com for more info.
