Mercantile Bank, met sy takke hoofsaaklik in Gauteng, gaan in die afsienbare toekoms in die mark wees.

Portugal se grootste bank, Caixa Geral de Depositos (CGD) wat deur die staat besit word, het aangekondig dat hy sy buitelandse bates teen 2020 met soveel as die helfte gaan verminder as deel van sy deurlopende herstrukturering.

Sy Spaanse en Suid-Afrikaanse ondernemings, waaronder Mercantile­ Bank, geniet prioriteit, het Paulo Macedo, uitvoerende hoof, gesê en bygevoeg sy Franse bankbelange sal waarskynlik ook verkoop word.

CGD, wat in 2016 'n rekordverlies van €1,86 miljard gely het, het laat Vrydag in 'n verklaring gesê hy beplan om sy internasionale bates van €23 miljard tot minder as €12 miljard teen 2020 te verminder om sy opbrengs op ekwiteit van 13% tot 15% te verhoog.

CGD se totale netto batewaarde was einde verlede jaar €93,5 miljard teenoor €101 miljard in 2015.

Hy sal sy ondernemings in Portugeessprekende lande soos Angola, Mosambiek en die Macau-streek in China behou. - Netwerk24/Reuters
