Leonardo Amwaalwa Seniors at JG Van Der Wath Secondary School in Okahandja were looking forward to finally have their matric farewell, only for the worldwide coronavirus pandemic to stomp on their plans. Preparations were underway for the farewell in hopes of making it the best one yet, as this was going to be the last grade 12s, but the school were stopped in their tracks by the pandemic and had to cancel everything.Learners were disappointed but all hope was not lost as the school still had very much intended to host the farewell. The school had planned a farewell for the learners, while they would have to follow safety precautions and regulations. The learners were still allowed to celebrate so long as they stay within the safety guidelines. This was not going to be flashy, but it was something that was hoped to bring happiness. When the seniors found out, they took a liking to the idea, and convinced their parents/guardians. The plan was set and everything was going to go accordingly, but the cases grew more and more day by day. This made the probability of having a farewell almost zero. Learners also became scared and others were disappointed that they couldn’t live out their dream.The school still has its plans set for the matric farewell due to take place on 18 December. Some learners think that the school should forget about the farewell, while others think that, with elevated precautions, the farewell could still take place.
