Khorixas mall to open in March
The mall has 11 shops and a warehouse of approximately 2 000 square metres.
Rodney Pienaar - Construction of the first-ever mall in Khorixas has been completed at a cost of N$30 million.
The mall is expected to officially open its doors in March 2020, just before the Independence Day celebrations.
The venture has already attracted business, its project manager, Lazarus Alfons, said.
The mall has 11 shops and a warehouse of approximately 2 000 square metres. This will be available for convenience shops that could be used to supply businesses in the region.
“The mall is expected to create approximately 100 to 120 permanent jobs and preference will be given to inhabitants. Some businesses have already confirmed their interest and started moving in,” Alfons said.
He added that residents will no longer have to travel more than 200 kilometres to Otjiwarongo for shopping once the mall opens.
Youth
The public relations officer of the Khorixas town council, Eben Xoagub, said the mall will be a welcome boost to the town’s economy.
“Khorixas has only one supermarket and one service station. Once the mall is open it will mean competition and people will be able to buy food items at lower prices. The local youth will be given preference for employment, so the opening of the mall will also help reduce unemployment among the youth in Khorixas,” he said.
“Currently people travel very far every month-end just for shopping, so now they will be able to save the money they used for travelling,” he said.
One Khorixas resident who spoke to Nampa, Rosalia Gomes, said she could not wait for the mall to open.
“I am very happy that construction has been completed. Now many of us will get decent jobs and will earn something,” she said. - Nampa
