Walter “The Executioner” Kautondokwa received a much-needed boost of confidence ahead of his World Boxing Organization (WBO) title defense when he improved his WBO rating from number six to number three. The WBO monthly ratings of February was just released and saw MTC Sunshine boxers rise to the occasion all with improved ratings.
Despite his recent controversial loss to Ray Beltran, Paulus “The Hitman” Moses is now rated #10, which is a clear indication of how highly acclaimed and respected he is after that fight. Mike Shonena, who made his WBO rating debut just last month, improved his rating from number 15 to 14. Shonena will also step into the ring on 20 March to defend his WBO Welterweight title as part of The Legacy Independence boxing fights.
Jeremiah “Low Key” Nakathila also has every reason to be excited as he improved his rating from number six to number five in the Junior Lightweight division. Nakathila will also step into the ring on 20 March to defend his WBO title. Sakaria Lukas remains at number three in the Featherweight division.
Nestor Tobias, chairman of the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy, is excited about the boxers’ improvements.
“I am very excited about the new ratings, it shows we are making very good progress in the international boxing scene. Serious boxing is all about world ratings. If you are not rated, you can never fight for a serious world title. Kautondokwa took a massive jump and this is because he always fights top opponents. The current world champion, Billy Joe Saunders, has avoided him, but soon he will have nowhere to run because Kautondokwa will soon become mandatory with a few more fights. It is therefore important that he wins his next fight and remains unbeaten.
“I am also glad to see The Hitman in the ratings, usually when an African fighter loses, you lose your top 15 rating, but because of Moses’s spectacular performance in a fight in the USA that he won in my view, they kept him in the ratings. Nakathila has been improving his ratings every month and that is a good sign of things to come for him. He must continue winning and things will happen sooner than later for him.
“Shonena is new in the ratings and already he jumped by one spot, which is positive. Sakaria Lukas remains at number three in a competitive division, because the champion will defend his title soon and the two boxers in front of him continues to win their fights, but we will continue pushing. So all in all I’m happy, it is a good reflection of Namibian boxing and the plan is to definitely push for another world title for any of these boxers in 2018,” Tobias explained.
The Legacy Fight is scheduled to take place on 20 March in celebration of Namibia’s 28th Independence Day.
The fight takes place at Ramatex hall in Otjomuise, Windhoek. VIP tickets sell for only N$500 while general tickets are only N$50. The night will see a total of 14 fights with three WBO titles in defense.
