ITN adds international fibre capacity

INTERNET Technologies Namibia who recently celebrated its fifth year in the IP Communications industry, commissioned a STM-1 Fibre link which adds 155Mbps of data to Namibia.

This means that an additional 155Mbps of data can now be received and sent across ITN’s internet network to the rest of the world. The STM-1 terminates in South Africa, allowing ITN access to a wide variety of internet connectivity options, which include connectivity to the SEACOM, EASY and SAT3 undersea cable systems – providing for redundancy and capacity beyond most internet users’ dream.

“Cus t ome r s no w have the ability to connect from Namibia into South Africa or vice versa at lightning-fast speeds and at lower Internet costs than before. ITN continues to strive at lowering internet costs, from installing the first and largest privately-owned VSAT gateway in Namibia that is also STM- 1 capabl e he r e i n Windhoek to now installing the first privately- owned STM-1 fiber connectivity in Namibia,”

Mr Barney Harmse, CEO of the Internet Technologies Group said. “We have pioneered and positioned the company to deliver excellence in the market. Not only have we been able to position ITN to capture a significant market share in the local IP communications industry but we have also been able to focus on successfully delivering this quality to our customers through tailored product and communications solutions.”

Mr Harmse elaborates further: “The ground-breaking history that ITN has been at the forefront of over the past five years includes the first commercially available MPLS network, the first privately-owned international VSAT gateway, one of the few companies to land a Wimax Broadband license and then launching the largest international VSAT gateway one year later. This has all been tremendously exciting and we have enjoyed bringing these solutions to our customers.” The STM-1 fiber brings with it additional advantages in connecting customers to the gigantic world of the internet and we are proud to provide this access.”

Mr Schalk Erasmus, technical director of ITN states: “This has been quite a big hurdle which has come with its fair share of challenges. However, ITN’s technical team has coped well with the new challenges and by grabbing the bull by the horns the team has portrayed their commitment to the new technology offerings we are bringing to our customers and to the Namibian public.

“We are looking forward to the next challenge and we will always take a leading role in pioneering new technology offerings. The growth we have experienced on the international demand has been incredible. Originally, at the end of 2004, we installed a very small connection from Namibia to SA, actually less than the average household receive nowadays in Namibia. With our new added capacity available, it indicates a growth of more than 120 000%.”

ITN invites all customers, both current and new, to contact the respective account managers or the sales department who would like to find out how this may benefit their product offerings.
