ISO accreditations for Namport

The Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) once again secured and received its accreditations from the International Standards Organizations (ISO). This follows after a successful external audit was conducted by the South African-based National Quality Assurance (NQA) representing the Global Certification Body based in the United Kingdom. This was by announced Immanuel !Hanabeb, the executive for commercial services at Namport, recently. The certification is valid for three years while surveillance audits are also conducted annually to determine Namport's compliance to ISO standards. !Hanabeb said the external auditors covered the ISO 9001 Standard (Quality Management System), the ISO 14001 Standard (Environmental Management System) and the ISO 45001 Standard (Health and Safety Management System), and conferred a positive report for Namport on all three standards. He listed the provision of an efficient management process to senior management, setting out areas of responsibility across the organisation, communicating a positive message to staff and customers, as some of the benefits to be derived from receiving the accreditation. Additional benefits include identifying and encouraging more efficient and time saving processes, reducing costs and providing continuous assessment and improvement of the port authority. Namport's acting chief executive officer (CEO), Kavin Harry, said the importance of this achievement cannot be underestimated, especially the impact it has on reassuring the esteemed customers of the port authority on the quality and safety of services rendering at Namibian ports. “It is therefore only befitting that the executive management team conveys its heartfelt appreciation for the great work displayed by all Namport employees resulting into this great achievement,” he said. The ISO is an international standard-setting body composed of representatives from various national standards organisations. Founded on 23 February 1947, the organisation promotes worldwide proprietary, industrial and commercial standards. Manufacturing sectors have adopted ISO 9000 for three reasons: The value of the standard, the sales and marketing advantage and company requirements. Companies appreciate how the standard can improve their business processes and reduce scrap, rework and cost.
