The secretary-general of the Namibia Paralympic Committee, Michael Hamukwaya, says one of the athletes representing the country at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, Lahja Ishitele, sprained her ankle at training but is receiving treatment ahead of her race on 27 August.

Ishitele is the only woman representing Namibia at the Games, which start tomorrow.

“We are hoping that she will recover and be ready for her race,” said Hamukwaya.

Ishitele is scheduled to first compete in the long jump before taking on the 400-metres heat on the same day. She will then run in the 200-metres heat on 2 September.

He added that Johannes Nambala and Ananias Shikongo are well motivated and ready for their heats on 29 August (100m) and 1 September (400m) for Nambala, and 28 August (400m) and 1 September (100m) for Shikongo.
