Isaacs to attend preliminary World Cup draw in Brazil
NAMIBIA Football Association (NFA) president John Muinjo has delegated national team manager Tim Isaacs to represent the Association and the country at the preliminary draw for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Rio de Janeiro. The preliminary draw in Brazil, host of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, is part of a series of activities scheduled to take place this weekend. All 208 member associations have been invited by FIFA to attend the preliminary draw.
It will be the second time that Isaacs would attend a World Cup draw, after having witnessed first-hand the FIFA World Cup draw in 2007 in Durban, South Africa. Isaacs had subsequently also served as a member of the 40,000-strong volunteer corps during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. NFA president John Muinjo said sending Isaacs to Brazil was part of the executive?s efforts to empower as many as possible football administrators and to expose them to best practices in terms of how events of that nature are organised.
The occasion will also afford Isaacs an opportunity to network and exchange notes with other football executives. Apart from attending the draw, Isaacs will also attend the team seminar for the preliminary competition on Friday. The seminar will highlight the key organizational and administrative aspects contained in the 2014 World Cup regulations, give information on team base camps, as well as update Associations on preparations underway in Brazil for the 2014 World Cup. Subsequent to the seminar will be the FIFA banquet which will take place at the Forte de Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro.
On Saturday the preliminary draw for the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup will be presided over by FIFA president Sepp Blatter at the Marina da Gloria in Rio de Janeiro. Isaacs has expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the NFA and its president for the confi dence and trust it bestowed in him by assigning him ?this big responsibility.?
?It is an opportunity for me to rub shoulders with the who?s who of world football. The onus is on me to go and absorb as much information and intelligence as possible and to engage my counterparts from other Associations for the benefi t of Namibian football. I give my assurance that I will be a true ambassador for the NFA in particular and the Land of the Brave in general,? said Isaacs, who leaves for Rio today and returns on 1 August 2011.
