Interim NHRA leadership gets 3-year mandate

Horse-racing clubs decided at their annual general meeting to appoint the interim leadership of the Namibia Horse Racing Club (NHRA) on a full-time basis for the next three years. The NHRC has been operating in an interim acting capacity since February 2019 after the previous management resigned. In an interview with Nampa on Tuesday, NHRC president Marthinus de Waal highlighted that the acting interim leadership had worked tirelessly to put the association in a better financial position and cooperated with Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), among other achievements. “We had a deficit of minus N$2 000 and with my expertise as an accountant, we ended the financial year with a surplus of N$40 000 in the bank,” he said. De Waal added that the previous leadership had issues with the SPCA but the interim committee managed to reach an agreement with the animal welfare organisation and they are now working together. The president further said the NHRC engaged the Namibian Sports Commission, which is now working closely with them and that they recently signed a bilateral agreement with Botswana. “This bilateral agreement signed in November 2019 will strengthen our relationship and making it easier to compete with Botswana,” explained de Waal. De Waal is deputised by Mannes Hendricks in the nine-member association. Eamon Freygang is the association's secretary, while the treasurer position is occupied by Sweety Zamuee. Nicky Angermund will serve as development officer, with Kalefa Nguasena and Zuma Kavirombo will continue serving as additional members to the leadership, while Bernard Kaanjuka and Mutu Katjiuanjo were added to the management as members of the disciplinary committee.NAMPA
