The final of the Namibian Ice- and Inline Hockey Association (NIIHA) took place in Swakopmund over the past weekend.

Due to a growing sport, with ever-increasing player numbers in all divisions (age groups), NIIHA for the first time tried the split tournament format, where the member clubs had to host a junior and senior tournament each, at their inline hockey rinks.

With this format NIIHA managed to get all games played over a weekend, including all the B-teams that have entered the league during 2017.

This required of the member clubs to organise two tournaments on different weekends and players, as well as supporters, had to travel twice as much to be at all the tournaments. Inline hockey is played in Swakopmund at the Coastal Pirates Club (CP), in Otjiwarongo at the Scorpions Club (SCO) and at the three Windhoek Clubs - Badgers (BAD), Cazadores (CAZ) and Kamikaze (KAZ).

Competition at the tournament was fierce with interesting surprises, with club dominance over all age groups being a thing of the past.

All member clubs’ coaches have been applauded by organisers for coaching their teams to new levels in the sport.

Of these final league standings for the year 2017, the top-four seeded teams will now battle it out at the Theo’s Superspar NIIHA Champs in Otjiwarongo, from in November 2017.
