Injustices to the residents of Kalkrand

Mandy Rittmann
ALFRED SWARTZ WRITES:

It is almost 7 years and 6 months that the Rehoboth Rural Constituency Councillor, Cllr. Mr. Riaan McNab is in office, but still nothing, but nothing has been done by Cllr. Riaan McNab in terms of development in Kalkrand.

Kalkrand is also part of Rehoboth Rural Constituency, yet no access to communications in terms of radio and TV signal. It is an injustice to residents of Kalkrand, while Hoachanas, 40 km from Kalkrand and Schlip that is 50 km from Kalkrand has access to radio and TV signals.

That is a totally insensitive injustice to the Kalkrand inhabitants. It is a denial of communication channels to the inhabitants of Kalkrand.

The insensitive injustices include access to water meters, electricity, title deeds of ownership of ervens, business plots, SMEs and resettlement farms. Accounts for services provided by the Village Council is used for a witch-hunt under the guise of interest and rates for refuse, sewerage, basic water etc.

The unresolved audit report of Kalkrand Village Council and unresolved issues surrounding the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) are big challenges Kalkrand are facing.

Nowadays Kalkrand Village Council is no more a people's Village Council that has to serve the people as a servant. Kalkrand Village Council is now becoming like an income generation project. It is supposed to serve the people, but it has been run on its own, so therefore I humbly request for Rehoboth Rural Constituency Councillor Mr. Riaan McNab to with immediate effect have a meeting with the residents of Kalkrand and tell the residents of Kalkrand under whose authority are the CDC members discussing the developmental matters of Rehoboth Rural Constituency and who are they representing, because Kalkrand is also part of Rehoboth Rural Constituency.

Tell us within 2 weeks, without no excuses and with-in a month bring radio and TV signals to Kalkrand. There must be no compromises. With-in 3 month bring water meters, electricity as well as electrification tools to the residents of Kalkrand.

Let the channel of the developmental process be released towards Kalkrand, before election, and do not come on election dates and make empty promises of quick service delivery to people and then be quiet for a whole 5 years.

Denial to communication is denial to access to development.
