In loving memory of Meester Frans Cloete
|AWEBAHE JOHANNES ||HOESEB, DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION, ARTS AND CULTURE IN THE ||KHARAS REGION WRITES:
Dear bereaved widow, children, grandchildren, relatives, friends and former colleagues as well as learners of the late Meester Frans Petrus Richard Cloete.
Fellow mourners, I was once one of the most privileged young educational leaders, managers and administrators that benefited immensely from the mentorship of Meester Cloete when I assumed duty as a novice Principal of Piet Diergaardt Primary School in Tsumis Park at the beginning of 1994.
As my immediate supervisor in his capacity as the Inspector of Education under whose circuit Piet Diergaardt Primary School resorted, Mr. Cloete came to Tsumis Park throughout the 1994 school year and practically showed me the finer tips on principalship.
I was guided on matters relating to timetabling, completion of an Attendance Register and the computation in a Summary Register, the updating of an Admission Register, financial management, instructional leadership, meeting management, and educational law and policies.
It was indeed unimaginable that an Inspector of Education would be both extremely strict and yet at the same time humane and respectful towards the worth and dignity of a supervisee even at times when I would have acted in an improper manner or have failed to meet a deadline.
But Meester Cloete was one such person who never raised his voice, but rather re-emphasized the finer details of the legal framework and policy guidelines in a calm manner, modelled positive behaviour and built mutual trust in that way and became dependable to me.
He was always accessible, and I had the privilege of either delivering or collecting official documents at his house in Rehoboth, after normal working hours, be it during the working days and even over the weekends, and to be invited for tea, coffee, water or a chat, and that is how I got to know his beloved lovely wife and the well-disciplined four children.
By always giving me constructive feedback, and providing professional support and guidance to me with authentic enthusiasm, Meester Fanna Cloete succeeded in helping me to become an effective and efficient educational leader, manager and administrator as a school Principal.
My rise through the ranks of educational leadership, management and administration as an Inspector of Education and Chief Education Officer Grade 4: Programmes and Quality Assurance up to Regional Director of Education, Arts and Culture, is inextricably interwoven with the unforgettable tremendous advice and guidance of Meester Cloete.
Liewe roubeklaende gemeente, weduwee, kinders, familie, vriende, voormalige kollegas en gemeenskap van Rehoboth, mag die siel van hierdie merkwaardige man in vrede rus. Amen.
