Minister of Industrialisation and Trade, Lucia Iipumbu launched the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Impact Facility in Windhoek.

Iipumbu explained that the facility will be used to provide mentorship grants and debt financing to women and youth in business, social enterprises and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), to address access to affordable finance.

“The situation affects the growth of enterprises, especially MSMEs with concomitant impacts on job creation and overall community growth and vitalism. The private sector has a crucial role to play in achieving our SDG objectives. I encourage the private investment capital,” said Iipumbu.

She added that the ministry in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) embarked on targeted small businesses for support interventions and jointly launched Empretec Namibia in 2019 which is a national enterprise development programme that offered business development support to over 100 small businesses.

It is also aimed at de-risking the investment environment by offering an opportunity to small businesses to unlock private and development capital.

“Retaining the noble objectives of growth at home implies the need to ensure that all strategic levers to support and sustain enterprise development are fully embraced, as well as the establishment of the SDG Impact Facility platform with technical partner UNDP Namibia,” said Iipumbu.

She expressed gratitude to entities that came on board to support and execute the idea and advised the targeted audience to come on board and approach the various financial institutes such as Standard Bank to help achieve the country’s growth at home strategy. -Nampa
