Having clients’ best interests at heart

Michelline Nawatises Roza Johannes was born and raised at Ondangwa in the Oshana Region. She grew up in a loving home with her parents and siblings. Years later her parents sent her to boarding school.“I passed grade 12 with flying colours. I was then, accepted at the University of Namibia ,which was the greatest accomplishment in my life,” she says. Johannes holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with industrial psychology and sociology as majors. A year ago, she was excited when the opportunity of becoming a financial adviser presented itself to her. “I grabbed it with both hands. I felt like I was finally getting my life together. I was finally going to become independent and not just counting on my parents for everything,” she says.As a financial adviser, her job is all about building a strong and lasting relationship with clients by establishing trust and responding to their questions and concerns. This includes specialising in developing comprehensive financial solutions in areas such as retirement planning, long-term insurance, wills and financial needs analysis. She listens to existing and potential clients to provide them with a long-term plan that best fits their needs.Being a financial adviser is not easy. “You have to put in 100% just to ensure that you reach the target, but with hard work and determination I am learning to become the best at what I do,” Johannes says. Her biggest accomplishment so far is moving to the affluent market where she has a variety of products to offer clients. There is no such thing as a typical day for a financial adviser; each day is different. However, Johannes’s daily schedule usually would include the following: going through emails, confirming appointments for the day, servicing existing clients, and most importantly prospecting for new clients. When Johannes has spare time she gets her hands full of flour as she loves baking. She spends hours browsing blogs and recipe books to get inspired and fuel her creativity. “But I also use a lot of these resources to improve my baking skills. YouTube tutorials are great for that,” she says.Johannes says the best phase in her life is adulthood, after graduating from university. “This phase teaches you the most important things in life because you learn that it’s not all candies and sweeties but one has to learn the reality of life. You will understand life from every different perspective. This whole load of responsibilities added onto your life; I find it to be a quite a good challenge for me,” she says.
