Happy New Year Mr President
August Maletzky and Family writes:
Mr President, Your Excellency,
I am delighted to have the opportunity of wishing you, your spouse, family, and indeed the entire Namibian House a prosperous new year.
I do so against the backdrop that the past few years have been tough on you and your loved ones, not least because of the financial predicament we are facing as a nation. Despite the difficulties, and often severe and uncalled for criticisms against you and your administration, your perseverance remains commendable.
As you know, our society is fraught with a plethora of social economic and political challenges. We are a people in desperate need for inspirational and ethical leadership and hope. The Constitution is the foundation, the power-base we can use to be the agents of change in our society. Being agents of change and progress means becoming good role models to all. It means to stand up for what is right and just, no matter what!
Why should judges, lawyers, doctors, entrepreneurs, dynamic innovators, managers of corporates, educators of our children, intellectual shapers of public discourse and leaders of various structures of society be compelled to trade the Bill of Rights for success, or just to provide for their families?
To be successful, the trend is to trade the Bill of Rights and one's very own identity, to satisfy a few greedy and powerful groups of people. That Mr President, is unacceptable and very disconcerting.
Sir, set the example and allow us to follow. Let us all become true representatives of this land and all of its people by rekindling and actualizing the dreams and aspirations entrenched in our supreme law, the Constitution. Inspire us to join hands and to empower one another according to the principle of each one teach one. Rekindle that euphoric spirit of hope we had on the 21st of March 1990. I know you are able to rekindle and actualize the spirit, purport and objects of the Constitution. Let us stop misinterpreting the Constitution and trading the Bill of Rights for selfish gain, let us cease to call for endless conferences and talk shows.
To change the plight of our brothers farming north of the Red Line needs no more talk, but action. To change the unfortunate reality of State Owned Enterprises needs no more talk but action, action in which competence for example overrides political affiliation, and action in which the Anti Corruption Commission stops selective prosecution. Let Dr. Eliah Ngurare be a lecturer at Unam or wherever his competencies may best serve this nation despite his differences with whoever.
To address homelessness needs no more talk but action, and the list goes on. Poverty certainly needs action - no more conferences Mr President. Kindly put an end to these money wasting talk-shows. Let me be bold enough and say this on behalf of all of our citizens, We are tired of these hollow and money wasting talk shows.
We want action.
As you take the next steps in the highest office of this land may you be inspired to shape our character, our morals, and aversions with the phrase, “I am the President, I don't only rely on prayers, but I am a man of character, I live by principles I shall never compromise, and I lead by example, one which all citizens should fearlessly follow to built a House we can all be proud of.” I know you can set that indelible precedent of what a great leader can achieve for his people, an example to be emulated by many generations to come.
I wish you God's grace and richest blessings in accomplishing your dreams and mine for all of the people of this beautiful land.
