Amerikaanse maatskappye wat reeds maande lank waarsku oor die uitwerking van tariewe op Chinese invoere meen die ergste moet nog kom.

Pres. Donald Trump se invoer­tariewe van US$34 miljard is van Vrydag om middernag van krag en die vrees bestaan dat dit die konfrontasie tussen Washington en Beijing net gaan vererger. China het reeds belowe om tariewe van dieselfde hoeveelheid teen Amerikaanse invoere in te stel.

Die Amerikaanse departement van handel het Donderdag ook 'n lys van US$16 miljard se bykomende produkte uitgereik wat deur tariewe geraak sal word. Trump het die departement ook beveel om nog US$200 miljard se Chinese produkte te identifiseer waarop daar tariewe gehef kan word.

Verskeie maatskappye, insluitend General Electric en handelsgroepe soos die Amerikaanse Kamer van Koophandel, sê tariewe is nie die regte manier om China se beweerde diefstal van Amerikaanse intellektuele eiendom te straf nie.

Hierdie maatskappye is besig om gebeurlikheidsplanne te beraam sou die handelsoorlog vererger.

Sommige besighede het selfs probeer om die Trump-administrasie te oorreed om die tariewe te verlaag en gemaan dat hulle gedwing sal word om produksie te verminder, werkers af te dank of selfs bedrywighede uit die VSA te verskuif.– Netwerk24/Bloomberg
