Sanlam announced the second winner of the Sanlam Innovation Works on 9 December 2016.

The entrepreneurial project that commenced in November 2014 in partnership with the Namibia Business Innovation Institute (NBII), has opened doors for many small businesses to afford themselves an opportunity in their chosen fields or industries.

Sanlam crowned Green Earth Creations the winners and said the selection was based on a criterion that assessed all teams’ progress throughout the year. The project is aimed at equipping business owners with the necessary skills required to succeed in their chosen field.

At the award ceremony, Evans Simataa: General Manager Public and Corporate Support at Sanlam, emphasised that innovation is important because it opens doors to many opportunities such as job creation. He also went on to say that the participants should use the knowledge they gained from the experience to further build their businesses and brands. “My message to all the participants here today is to take your creativity and make something out it, be the inventor that will not leave people’s mouths”.

Also present at the award ceremony was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology, Dr. Gert Günzel. He commended the participants’ efforts and emphasised the importance of the project and the involvement of the university, “The Namibia University of Science and Technology continues to make great efforts for innovation and community involvement, and today’s awards ceremony is a testimony to our vigorous drive to combine teaching with research and community involvement in tackling national challenges.”

At the same occasion Sanlam and NUST announced that they would increase the start-up amount from 20 000 to 50 000 for the short listed top 5 with an additional overall amount of 25 000 to the winner. Entry forms and more information are available on Sanlam Namibia’s Facebook page.
