Grassroots: Aims to expand pyramid base
Jacqueline Shipanga, coach of the Brave Gladiators, last week attended FIFA?s ?Grassroots? seminar as well as the festival at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.
The FIFA Grassroots programme is a key element of the football governing body?s development efforts, aimed at ?getting as many people as possible involved in the game, instilling human values and, above all, bringing enjoyment to all simply by letting them take part.?
?FIFA continues to make a difference in the lives of communities and in particular children. Namibia is part of that development and I am glad to have been part of such a momentous programme,? Shipanga said.
She added: ?Namibia held a FIFA grassroots course in 2010 and it paved the way for the current Youth Leagues that the NFA Technical Department has established. The Youth committee under the leadership of Isack Hamata, Jakes Amaning and Timo Tjongarero with the guidance of the Technical Department will continue to provide a conducive platform for early talent identification and coach development as quite a number of the coaches that were in attendance of that particular grassroots course are also prominent coaches in the youth leagues.?
In Zurich, FIFA development officers brought the 40 Grassroots instructors from all four corners of the globe up to date on the approach, content, structure and support given by FIFA as well as learning materials involved in Grassroots projects. (NFA statement; additional info from: Fifa.com)
