Goals galore at Gravity Cup

The Namib Poultry Gravity Cup coastal leg served up some action-packed rugby, soccer and netball over the past weekend. This leg of the tournament was hosted at the sports grounds of Walvis Bay Private High School.

A total of 26 netball, 12 soccer and 33 rugby matches were played in four age groups, namely under-13, -15, -17 and -19.

Schools from all over the country travelled to Walvis Bay, including Danie Joubert Primary School, Suiderhof Primary School, Ella Du Plessis, A Shipena Secondary School, St George’s, Academia High School, Okahandja School Sports, Etosha Secondary School and Windhoek High School. Local schools included Walvis Bay Primary School, Walvis Bay Private High, Alexanders Private School, Swakopmund Primary School, Namib Primary School and The Dolphin Schools.

In addition, The Dolphin Schools stepped out of their comfort zones by entering senior soccer and rugby teams and played their hearts out. This was their first senior teams in the history of the school.

The highlight of the day was the final rugby match of the day, where the under-19 team of Walvis Bay Private High School played against Windhoek High School. The home team Windhoek packing with a score of 14 - 10.

The Namib Poultry Gravity Cup is a pre-entered circuit where teams enter a qualifying round to qualify to compete in the finals. Only the first three teams of each age group and code in each region qualify to go through to the finals.

The finals will be taking place on Friday and Saturday in Windhoek.

The Namib Poultry Gravity Cup was launched in 2018 and the first circuit commenced in the beginning of 2019. This tournament is becoming a platform for quality competition in rugby, netball and soccer.
