Die One Economy-stigting in samewerking met Namibia Health Plan (NHP) het Saterdag 'n staptog teen geweld gehou.

Daartydens is die teengeweldveldtog #BreakFree2BeFree van stapel gestuur.

Meer as 150 mense het deelgeneem aan die vyf kilometer-staptog wat deur die presidentsvrou, me. Monica Geingos, gelei is.

Met die jaar lange veldtog word beoog om bewustheid teen geweld te skep.

Tydens 'n ontbyt ná die staptog, het Geingos gesê die hoë geweld­syfer in Namibië is 'n teken van 'n wanfunk­sionele samelewing. “Ons sal dit nie as normale gedrag beskou nie en ons moet saamwerk om 'n verandering te maak."

Geingos het gesê Namibië is 'n baie veroordelende same­lewing wat moet ophou om ongevoelig te wees oor kwessies rakende geweld. Sy het die media aangemoedig om sensasionele inligting oor geweld te vermy.

“Laat ons eerder ons toegang tot inligting gebruik om teen geweld op te staan, aangesien sensasie niks help nie,” het Geingos gesê.

Volgens haar moet ­Namibiërs ophou om onsensitief te wees oor gebeure wat sekere groepe mense meer as ander raak.

Die kantoor van die presidentsvrou wil 100 000 handtekeninge ter ­bevestiging van die belofte teen die einde van 2018 insamel.
