Francois Williams en Bloomberg – Die Amerikaanse motorreus Ford wil 7 000 van sy werknemers aflê, maar dis nog nie duidelik of dit ook sy Suid-Afrikaanse bedrywighede insluit nie.

Terwyl Maandag berig is dat Ford internasionaal sowat 10% van sy witboordjiewerkers, oftewel sowat 7 000 mense, wil aflê, het Ford Suider-Afrika gespog met sy uitvoerverkope.

Ford Suider-Afrika het in April net meer as 33 000 voertuie uitgevoer. Dit is 53,8% meer as dieselfde maand ’n jaar gelede.

Neale Hill, besturende direkteur van Ford in Suider-Afrika asook Afrika suid van die Sahara, sê Ford het in die afgelope twee jaar meer as R3 miljard belê om sy Silverton-monteeraanleg in Pretoria en sy Struandale enjinfabriek in Port Elizabeth uit te brei om aan die groeiende internasionale vraag na die Ford Ranger te voldoen.

Tans word twee derdes van Ford Suider-Afrika se totale voertuigproduksie na 148 lande in Europa, die Midde-Ooste en die res van Afrika uitgevoer.

Dit lyk vir eers asof die sny van poste by Ford se internasionale bedrywighede beperk is tot Noord-Amerika, Europa, China en Suid-Amerika, want Ford noem niks van moontlike afleggings by sy Suid-Afrikaanse bedrywighede nie.

Jim Hackett, uitvoerende hoof van Ford, het Maandag in ’n memorandum aan werknemers geskryf Ford moet burokrasie sny om by te hou in dié mededingende bedryf.

In die proses wil Ford sy bestuurstruktuur met 20% sny en die aantal hiërargiese vlakke in die groep van 14 na 9 of minder te sny.

Die afleggings is wel veel minder as die 25 000 wat verlede jaar deur ’n ontleder van Morgan Stanley voorspel is.

Ford het teen 25 April wêreldwyd 196 000 werknemers gehad teenoor die 202 000 teen die einde van 2017. – Netwerk24
