FNB supports international geological congress

FNB Namibia handed over an amount of N$65 000 to enable selected teachers and students of the Young Earth Scientist (YES) Network Namibia to attend the international geological congress in Cape Town, South Africa.
At the hand-over Sepo Haihambo, RMB Namibia, said: “People are a key part of FNB’s strategic pillars, which to us not only means looking after our own employees but celebrating and helping enhance the lives of fellow Namibians. The FNB Foundation supports initiatives in a number of areas that cover Education, Financial Literacy, Skills and Capacity Development, Sport, Art and Culture, Community and Health Development and Environmental Guardianship. These strategic focus areas coupled with our commitment towards being a responsible business, make it clear as to why FNB Namibia is excited to be a supporter of the Young Earth Scientist Network Namibia.”
She added that the benefits of cross border exchange of ideas have been well documented throughout history, and platforms and debate forums such as these were important in equipping Namibian youths in order for them to continue to grow the national ability to engage constructively on international platforms.
“It is education that allows us to carve a path to self-sufficiency and which can be used as a stepping stone to growing our local industries, which in turn enhances our national productivity and job creation. Education paves a way to innovative thinking and collaborative discussion that allows us to forge ahead with building our nation and achieving success in our national development plans and vision 2030.”
In his address, Mr. Obeth Kandjoze, Minister of Mines and Energy and patron of YES Network Namibia, thanked FNB Namibia for affording the teachers and students the opportunity to attend this congress which took place once every four years and was viewed as the World Cup of Geosciences.
“This will be a great opportunity for the young scientists to learn, network and market themselves. In addition, the teachers will greatly benefit from the Geosciences Information for Teachers workshop as they will be given first-hand scientific information by world class earth scientists and provided with science materials to enhance classroom experience.”
