FNB still the backbone of local tennis development
THE FNB Foundation has once again committed itself to the complete development of Namibia’s youth by reconfirming its relationship with the Junior Tennis Initiative (JTI). This coincided with the hand-over of a well appreciated sponsorship valued at N$164 000 by FNB.
This remains one of the single biggest junior sport sponsorships in the country and the FNB contribution once again forms the financial backbone of tennis development in Namibia in 2008. FNB has been involved in the Junior Tennis Initiative since its inception in 1997.
Mr. Bob Mould, president of the Namibian Tennis Association thanked FNB for their continued involvement and stated that none of their development projects would have been possible without the ongoing financial backing of FNB. Being in its eleventh year, the Junior Tennis Initiative has introduced players like Berney Olivier, Michal Muller and Paulina Shikongo to the game of tennis. These three players have all represented Namibia in international junior competitions such as the Africa Zone 6 Championships.
Mr. Karl Davies, Development Officer of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in Southern Africa said he is convinced that all of these players owe their success to the vision of FNB. Namibia must understand just how privileged they are to have such loyal sponsors and should continue to foster good relationships with sponsors such as FNB. Says Mr. Dixon Norval, Head of Strategic Marketing at FNB: “By supporting tennis development FNB is trying to contribute to a brighter future for the youth of Namibia.
We also encourage them to begin early to establish sound financial practices by offering them savings opportunities with their very own FutureSave and FutureForward accounts.” Dixon in return thanked Elizma Nortje and her JTI team, the parents and the teachers who encourage the tennis champs of tomorrow to stay focused and improve their tennis skills.
