Five Rand residents give Cenored thumbs up
A total of 1 700 households in three informal settlements at Okahandja has been provided with electricity since the Central North Regional Electricity Distributor (Cenored) took over the responsibility to distribute electricity from the Okahandja Town Council a year ago.
Cenored public relations officer, Charlie Matengu, said 800 households have been electrified in Five Rand and 900 others at Oshetu and Saamstaan. Traffic lights on the B1 road and in town have been erected by the company to regulate flow of the traffic.
Nearly N$10 million has been spent by the company so far on installing the electricity services and traffic lights.
Residents of the Five Rand settlement said the electrification programme is being carried out fast and has improved the town's image.
“Before Cenored, this place had exposed electricity cables nearly everywhere, which put our lives in danger,” said the 52-year-old Martha Kandengu.
Matengu said Cenored is busy finalising the electrification of another 100 houses at Five Rand.
