Explain why it is not a new Fishrot

Mandy Rittmann
BAB WRITES FROM //KHARAS:

I would like the Fisheries Minister, Hon. Dr. Albert Kawana to give the Namibian nation and the new prospective applicants very understandable criteria and the rationale which was used to allocate the new fishing rights and quotas to the current holders, if not new holders.

The likes of HOMPA, TOMP Global Fishing, Rukatuka Investments, SMEDT Alliance Fishing, Calmo Marine, Ketwa Holdings, Bezzi Fishing, Jurel Shoal Fishing, Tulip- Nam Fishing, Otonaka Fishing and Blue- Pann Fishing are listed among the new entrants.

What we, who were unsuccessful would like to know is how did those companies qualify.

Who should be your business partners, to which political party should the partners be affiliated, from which tribe should they be, from which regions should they be and last but not least, how many companies were selected per region?

I’m adamant until the contrary is proven that it's the same old Fishrot wine in a new bottle.

The other issue which makes me very furious is talk about 2012 right holders. Who are they and what is the allegiance between those right holders and the ruling elite and the well-connected ones?

I wonder whether the project proposals that we had compiled at so much cost and with so much effort were even looked at? What desired results did the proposed auctioning of the Government Objective Quota yield?
