Exciting flair displayed at CTC

The Namibia Tennis Association (NTA) club league for 2016 continued last Saturday when three matches in the men’s second division, one in the men’s third division and two matches in the women’s second division were played.
In the men’s second division, the Central Tennis Club (CTC) B team prevailed by 15 to 5 points over UNAM. Due to a no-show the Namibia University of Science & Technology (NUST) team took twenty league points from CTC C.
In the women’s second league the City of Windhoek team beat NUST by 13 points to 7, while the City of Windhoek men’s team defeated the NUST students by 19 to 1.
DTS took 20 points by default due to a no-show of the Police College team.
The CTC B team earned some hard won points when its top player, Jurgens Twyman, beat Unam’s top gun Eno Akpabio 6-3, 7-5. However, CTC B captain Kyalo Kitheka took a beating from UNAM captain Patrick Paulus losing 3-6, 3-6.
The CTC B doubles team of Lawrence Kahindi and Gino Braz defeated the UNAM pair of Chris Mundukuta and Sem Davis 6-2, 6-0, but faced a much harder challenge in their second match against Akpabio and Paulus.
After losing the first game 2-6, they came back to win the second one 6-4 and finally prevailed in the third game played as a champion tie-break 10-6.
The CTC B combination of Twyman and Kitheka finally beat UNAM’s David/Mundukuta by 6-0, 6-3.
In the men’s third division City of Windhoek’s top player Gospel Mwilima overcome NUST’s Megameno Shipanga in three sets (2-6, 6-2, 6-0). Troosiy Shivangulula defeated NUST captain Bratwin Brock 6-0, 6-1 while Bourquin van Wyk defeated NUST’s Edwin Tsowaseb 6-2, 6-2.
The City of Windhoek also won the two doubles matches when Mwilima/Shivangulula beat Brock/Uaatjo 6-0, 6-1, while Van Wyk/Mwilima had the upper hand with 6-4, 6-2 against Brock/Tsowaseb in the final match.
In the City of Windhoek women’s encounter against the student team of NUST, most matches were tightly contested. Charmaine Mwilima struggled initially against NUST’s Stefanie Garises but finally won the match in three sets (1-6, 6-0, 6-0). Lydia Kyobetsi defeated Nathalia Kupembona 6-2, 6-2. The doubles was won by Charmaine Mwilima and Kyobetsi with 6-4, 7-5.
The league continues on 13 August with matches in the men’s first, second and third division as well as the women’s first and second division.
