Excellence the key to growth
GOVERNMENT should launch a nationally driven initiative to promote excellence in Namibia’s economy, the Development Bank of Namibia (DBN), National Housing Enterprise (NHE) and Agribank has urged. Vinson Hailulu, Chief Executive Officer of the NHE, called for this step on behalf of the country’s three development financing institutions (DFI) at the launch of the Journey to Excellence initiative earlier this week.
"We cannot excel in isolation. Based on the premise that we – the three Namibian DFI’s – cannot hope to excel unless the whole industry within which they operate also excel, Namibia also need to excel if various industries that exist within its economy are to excel," Hailulu said.
"It is our firm belief that the implementation of the excellence model will enable Namibia to become a competitive economy, thereby eliminating poverty and grow a prosperous society.
"It is our strong conviction as Namibian DFI’s that an effective implementation of excellence initiatives would go a long way in enabling Namibian companies, industries and indeed government to implement corporate and economic development strategies successfully and thereby achieving extra ordinary economic growth and prosperity for our people," he said.
Since last year, the DFIs have, with the support of Southern Africa Initiative of German Business (SAFRI), embarked on the Journey to Excellence initiatives. To achieve the goals of Vision 2030, Namibia needs to look at various strategies to implement this grand initiative goal, Hailulu said.
Some of these would include the introduction of a mentorship programme in order to train and equip the leaders who will drive this initiative in various institutions.
