The customer is always right

Magano Shipena is a young vibrant mother of one born and raised in Windhoek, where she completed her primary, secondary and her tertiary education. She currently works as a Customer Service Representative at MultiChoice Namibia, a position she has held since 2016. “I am very passionate about art and love taking walks and admiring nature. I describe myself as an introvert with a big heart,” Shipena says.
As a Customer Service Representative, her duties include obtaining client information, answering consumer questions, resolving complaints, and determining the cause customer queries while providing the best possible solution.
One of her biggest challenges was learning to navigate the business systems and gathering as much knowledge as she could about the products and services, in her previous and current places of employment. “However, I take it as an accomplishment because I managed to learn within a relatively short time and fit in with peers and staff members easily,” she says.
Shipena gets to work around 07h00 and immediately starts taking calls depending on how busy it is. “I must add that customer service/support is not for everyone but helping someone overcome their challenge and receiving their gratitude as a result can be extremely uplifting,” she says.
Inspiration to her is when a person gives her enough motives to do or feel something creative or beneficial to others or herself. "My family is very inspiring to me because they show me all aspects on how I should live my life through their experiences like education, parenting, and work ethic,” she adds.
The advice she would give to aspiring young people is to think before you act. “The simple but effective process of thought will help you avoid making critical mistakes that could cost you your freedom, education or your life.”
Apart from furthering her studies, Shipena is open to whatever opportunities the future may hold, especially within the company. “I pride myself in being flexible and adaptable. I think the best way of planning for the future is to make the most of the present,” she says.
