Due to the rapid rise of Covid-19 cases, the ministry of gender equality, poverty eradication and social welfare announced the following measures:

•ECDs countywide will close from 25 June - 26 July 2021.

•ECD centres are instructed to stock up on Covid-19 essential supplies during the break to ensure safety of children before the resumption of face-to-face teaching and learning.

•The ministry is ready to support community-based ECD centres with personal protective equipment (PPE) and urges stakeholders to assist in this regard.

Executive director Esther Lusepani said: “We understand it has not been easy for anyone of us, however the health and safety of the children and staff remains a priority.”

The ministry further urges all parents and educators to participate in the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination initiative to help reduce the risk of infection and save lives.
