Duo team through to Els event

Last Friday Omeya Golf Club set the pace once again when it hosted the first-ever Els for Autism Golf Day. This was the first time an Els for Autism event was hosted outside South African borders and the Omeya team was definitely up for the task. The day was well supported with 38 teams (76 players) participating. Omeya Golf Club is privileged to have played a part in raising awareness for autism and would like to thank its title sponsor Windhoek Lager for once again coming to the party. Also a word of thanks to Avis, The Hilton and Ricoh for their involvement. This is what Ernie Els had to say in his weekly blog: “On the subject of autism, we're grateful to the 38 teams who supported the latest Drive to SA Open golf day at Omeya Golf Club in Namibia last Friday, which raised N$150 800 for The Els Centre for Autism South Africa. “This was a new chapter for us, as it was the first such day to take place outside South African borders. Thanks to Nico van Rensburg of the Els Group and Dan Zwiebel, the General Manager at Omeya, for making this event happen. I hear it was such a good day that already a date is being discussed for a return visit in 2018.”The day was won by Jaco Swart and Jaco Coetzee on 45 points. By winning Friday's event the namesakes have qualified to participate in the final to be played at Highland Gate on 15 and 16 November. Highland Gate is a new Ernie Els design and is situated just outside Dullstroom, Mpumalanga. The overall winners there will earn their way into the 2018 SA Open Pro-Am to be played at Glendower Golf Club in Gauteng.
