Die sogenaamde handelskietstilstand is slegte nuus vir die dollar.

Die goudprys het Maandag met meer as 1% tot US$1 235 per fynons en die rand met 1,2% tot R13,57 teenoor die dollar verstewig. Die rand ­verhandel vroeg gisteroggend teen R13,67 teenoor die dollar.

“Dit is hoofsaaklik weens die swak dollar. Die dollar het teenoor die meeste geldeenhede teruggesak,” sê Jeff Klearman, portefeuljebestuurder by GraniteShares in New York.

Reuters berig die dollar se reaksie volg nadat Trump Saterdag tydens die G20-spitsberaad wat in Buenos Aires, Argentinië, gehou is, ooreengekom het om nié invoertariewe op alle Chinese goedere op 1 Januarie te verhoog nie.

Hy het vroeër gedreig om dit van 10% op sommige produkte tot 25% op alle produkte te verhoog.

Vroeg gisteroggend het die rand teen R17,40 teenoor die Britse pond en R15,53 teenoor die euro verhandel.
