Doing the right thing

Dani Booysen
GIELIE WRITES:

The comments/reasoning by the CEO of Momentum South Africa is shocking ("Momentum CEO on rejecting the N$2.4m life policy claim", Market Watch, 21 November 2018).

They might be acting within the limits of the law and the conditions specified in the policy, but it is certainly not the "right thing" to do.

Most times, acting within the specified rules is also the "right thing" to do, but not always.

The cause of death in this case is not related to the condition which Mr Ganas allegedly failed to disclose when the policy was arranged.

It is so easy for CEO's to hide behind the fine print, as is the case here, just to save some money.

Momentum missed a great opportunity to show good leadership and that they really care.

(Editor’s note: As reported in yesterday's edition of Market Watch after a public backlash Momentum South Africa on Tuesday afternoon announced that it would pay out the death benefit to Natalie Ganas, the widow of slain policy holder Nathan Ganas. Ganas died from gunshout wounds in March 2017 when he was hijacked in his driveway. – Fin24)
