Do politicians pay tax on S&T?

A. Vaatz writes:

In your edition of the 21st of November 2016 on page 2, you disclosed the payments which politicians receive when they are out of the country as a daily allowance.

The figures reflected there are, by any standard, exceptionally high, but one important aspect has not been indicated in your article, namely whether these politicians when they get this daily allowance, have to pay income tax on the daily allowance or not. This is important for us ordinary taxpayers to know, because when we make a claim for daily allowance, would that also be taxable or would it not be taxable, because on the basis of equality provided for in our Constitution, in my view, if the politicians don''t have to pay tax on the daily allowance, then we as ordinary citizens should also be exempted from paying tax on allowances for being out of the country on business trips.

It would thus be great if the newspaper could investigate this aspect and inform the public on whether tax is payable by the President or Ministers when they get these extremely high daily allowance when doing work outside the country.

Kind regards
