Do not liquidate Air Namibia

Mandy Rittmann
KAPOROI WRITES:

Liquidate the entire Namibian Government and not Air Namibia.

It is our government that dismembered TransNamib Limited (which was headed by a singular Managing Director then) into its various departments/divisions namely: Harbours, Airports, Air Namibia for the sake of creating more jobs and broadening the tax base. It should also be remembered that the divisions were cross-subsidising one another, that it was the stronger ones assisting the weaker one financially.

The current problems of Air Namibia are the repercussions of an irrational decision made by our government to dismember TransNamib. Needless to say that those dismembered divisions/departments are now fully-fledged registered companies, headed by Chief Executive Officers.

It is now clear that our honourable Minister of Trade and Industry is on the right path and deserves to be supported.

The prudent approach for our government is to reverse its irrational decision. Return these companies to TransNamib as departments, or continue to sustain Air Namibia financially, with the profit from the two stronger triplets namely the Namibia Airports Company and Namport, as well as a subsidy from government.
