Dimension Data's XT Student Programme welcomes 2017 intake
Dimension Data (DD) – a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group – and a leader in Systems Integration in Namibia providing ICT solutions to business clients in the country, has recently welcomed the sixth intake on board its XT Student Programme.
According to Dimension Data's Human Resources Manager, Christian Mücke, six students were welcomed on board the 2017 programme. Since its inception in 2006, 30 students have so far successfully completed the XT Student Programme that provides students the opportunity to be trained and developed according to best practices.
Mücke: “This internship programme that stretches over a 20-month period is for selected candidates with the required personal traits and competencies, training them within a Microsoft or Cisco framework and giving them exposure to a world-class working environment. As a leading provider of information and telecommunication services within Namibia and a Namibian-managed IT company, we recognise the fact that the development of young talent to fill positions within the IT sector is critical to the sustainability of the ICT industry and of our company,” said Mücke.
The first phase of the programme will run for six months to introduce the candidates to computer, network and server fundamentals. After the first six months the candidates will sit for an A+, N+, Server+ and Windows 10 Certification. During the remaining months students will complete the Server Certification, Desktop Certification and/or Network Certification Path. Successful candidates will also be exposed to large corporate operational IT environments that include data centres, networking and end user equipment.
O&L Group Director: Human Capital, Berthold Mukuahima, regards Dimension Data's XT Programme as an important and critical leg in the local ICT sector. Mukuahima said: “While education and development is an important pillar and focus area in the O&L Group Corporate Social Investment (CSI) agenda, the XT Student Programme by Dimension Data has since its inception proven to be a valuable contribution to the development of local ICT skills. Advanced technology has become a key driver in the success of the business fraternity, and Dimension Data passionately contributes to keeping that reality alive, and contributing to the growth of the local ICT sector.”
Students will receive a monthly allowance and all training costs will be covered by Dimension Data Namibia. Mücke added that there is also the possibility of employment at Dimension Data after successful completion of the internship, although this is not a guarantee. Mücke said: “We always strive to employ as many young Namibians as possible, however if they cannot be accommodated at a given time, we know that they are well educated and will be an asset to any company needing IT specialists.” Requirements for participation in the Dimension Data XT Student Programme is a HIGCSE or IGCSE qualification - preferably with Mathematics as a subject as well as having a keen interest in Information and Communication Technology.
