Deloitte supports Business Leadership Youth Programme
THIS year saw Deloitte again pledging their support to the Lazarus Shinyemba Ipangelwa (LSI) Foundation project, namely the Business Leadership Youth Programme (BLYP). This leadership training programme is aimed at high school learners and is centred on business principles.
Managing Partner at Deloitte, Junius Mungunda, said: ?I believe it is important that as a firm we continue to invest in young people, and the LSI Foundation has provided us with an opportunity to do this. We fully support the Foundation?s focus on entrepreneurial skills and want to help lay the foundation for future leaders whose leadership is principled on strong ethics and confidence.?
Deloitte sponsored eight school children to visit their offices for two days during which time students were paired to Audit, Finance, Tax, Risk Advisory and IT staff. The students were also exposed to formally structured training sessions on topics such as building trust through ethics, entrepreneurial skills and branding yourself. Mildred Liswaniso, Manager at Deloitte?s Internal Audit department, said: ?The students learn a lot at these discussion sessions. They actively contribute and we are able to challenge each other?s opinions. It was an enriching experience and motivating to have such bright young minds in our midst.?
The LSI Foundation is a non-profit charitable organisation which was founded in memory of Lazarus Shinyemba Ipangelwa, the former chief executive officer of FNB Namibia who died in a car crash in 2005. This charitable organization encourages excellence in business leadership through training and mentoring programmes of students, graduates and emerging entrepreneurs. The BLYP introduces learners to a new cultured business world and leadership training they would not otherwise have been exposed to. The learners participate in weekly workshops regarding entrepreneurial skills, public speaking, CV writing, interviewing skills, personal finance, stock market, career planning, team building retreats and computer literacy.
