De Wet wins 2022 Hollard Ladies Coastal Open

Golf
For the 16th year in succession, Rössmund golf course played host to the Hollard Namibia Ladies Coastal Open last Saturday and Sunday.
A field of 25 ladies from the Omeya, Windhoek Country Club, Walvis Bay, Henties Bay and Rössmund golf clubs entered the tournament.
As an official event on the NALGU calendar and with the added incentive of merit points on offer the ladies were determined to play their best golf.
Playing conditions on both mornings were unfortunately a bit wet, but the sun managed to burn through the clouds by mid-morning, leading to humid but congenial conditions. The course was well prepared and the greens were in excellent condition, running fast and firm.
Wilna Bredenhann posted a first round score of 82 gross, five shots ahead of old rival Wilma de Wet (previously known as Wilma van der Merwe), whilst local girl Rina Knight was putting her stamp on the B Division, shooting 91 gross, two shots ahead of Cehesta Walters from Omeya.
In the C division (stableford) the Rössmund old brigade had their noses in front, led by Barbel von Klitzing on 37 points.
On Sunday, Wilma de Wet decided that today was the day and came back into the clubhouse with a well played 80 gross. Everything went down to the last hole and one great putt – giving her the tournament with a one-shot lead over Wilna Bredenhann.
In true Hollard fashion the players were spoilt with lots of surprises both on and off the course not to mention the wonderful prizes on offer – making this a tournament not to be missed and a true highlight on the NALGU calendar.
Brenda Lens, president of NALGU, thanked the sponsors Hollard for their ongoing support; the Rössmund golf course for the wonderful venue and the technical committee for all their hard work.
